2) DJ: A disc jockey (DJ) is a person who has a great passion and knowledge of music and his career is made out of these interests. In other words, a DJ plays music and earns money. Cool, isn’t it? Depending on the type and style of music, disc jockey can alter the sound in music. DJs create music for a variety of events, or radio audiences by mixing different music styles and tracks through a variety of tools, such as turntables, mixers, graphic equalizers, tape decks, and sophisticated sound processors.
3) Essential Education and Training: Some successful disc jockeys have no formal training and no formal education is required to be a DJ. Degree courses in broadcast technology or broadcast journalism are also available for radio DJs. To become a disc jockey, there are currently no colleges or universities that will provide defined courses in DJ training. However, many private institutes and training centers have been developed mainly in Mumbai, Delhi (NCR), Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. To become a disc jockey you need to have a good personality and voice, the ability to mix with people and to know their mood. He needs to know the prevailing hit music. He/she should have the skill of remixing the hit songs to make them trendy.
5) Income: Many DJs work independently on contract. This requires a capital of Rs. 3 lakhs. Depending on the DJ’s ability, qualifications, and experience, DJs charge between Rs 5,000 and Rs 20,000 per event. There are also many DJs working full time in the broadcasting and hospitality industries. Depending on their experience and popularity, their annual salary is around Rs 4 lakh to 8 lakh. Successful and well-known DJs like DJ Akil, DJ Suketu, DJ Akbar Sami, DJ Chetas charge around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh for an event.
6) Career Opportunities: DJs can work in different ways. The radio station recruits disc jockeys to talk and play music on-air.
